Pledge of Allegiance: Supervisor Walsh
Present: Supervisor Walsh, Commissioner Hafner, Chief Scott Schaffrick, Community Liaison
Richard Wright
Absent: Commissioner Stenta; Councilman Cassidy; Community Liaison Terry Johnson
Supervisor Walsh made a motion to approve the minutes from the April 28, 2026 meeting; 2nd
by Commissioner Hafner. Roll Vote: 2 Yes. Absent: Commissioner Stenta.
Correspondence: Chief Schaffrick said he had no correspondence this month. Chief Schaffrick
stated that there have been a lot of compliments on Facebook for our posts. He said his last post
was of Officer Witte and a few youths playing basketball. Supervisor Walsh said someone had a
good experience with Officer Witte dealing with someone with dementia.
Chief’s Report – Personnel: Supervisor Walsh made a motion for the Police Commission to
approve the hiring of Troy Hajba; 2nd by Commissioner Hafner. Roll Vote: 2 Yes. Absent:
Commissioner Stenta. Supervisor Walsh said Officer Normann is leaving full time position to
part time officer. Supervisor Walsh made a motion to accept the resignation of full time status of
Officer Normann and to approve him and recommend to the Town Board as part time officer
effective June 23, 2026; 2nd by Commissioner Hafner. Roll Vote: 2 Yes. Absent: Commissioner
Stenta.
Vehicles: Chief Schaffrick said all vehicles are up and going. Chief said that the milage is
getting a little high on a couple of the vehicles. Chief said he is looking at an electric Blazer like
we already have and he is looking for funding. He said the blazers are designed police cars. He
reached out to the upfitter for current pricing for upfitting a new vehicle and some of that pricing
would be offset from the technology grant that we got last year. Chief said computer systems we
have will carry over to a new vehicle. Chief Schaffrick talked to the Supervisor about providing
a car back to the Town for use. Chief Schaffrick stated that an electric vehicle will help since
fuel cost are up a little bit.
Grants: Chief Schaffrick applied for the STOP DWI grant and the department was awarded
$10,200 for 2027 for regular DWI patrols. Sergeant Quigley applied to the U.S. Deputy Sheriff
Association and received a ballistic shield for our department.
Chief said the department is doing more community service/interaction and purchased a tent
that will be used at Street Festival and upcoming events we have.
Training: Chief Schaffrick stated that he is moving forward with the purchase of another
bicycle for patrol and will be used for Street Festival and weekends with extra people on. Не
stated that Officer Vincent went to bike school a few years ago and she is already trained. Officer
Bassett will attend bike school next week. They will be out during Street Festival and special
events. Chief Schaffrick stated that firearms switchover is complete except Deputy Tuey, who
will train through the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Schaffrick stated that the old
handguns will be sent back to Amchar and they will send a reimbursement check. Officer Bassett
went to Kingston Police Department for 2 to 3 hours about electric bikes and scooter class. There
was a brief discussion about electric bikes.
Chief Schaffrick stated that he went to Williams Lake and renumbered 911 addresses. Hе
said that the project is going forward with building houses and a hotel.
Department STATS: Chief Schaffrick said there are 2,486 calls for service to date, 141
criminal cases, 62 arrests, 10 personal injury accidents, 50 property damage accidents, and 118
medical calls to date. Chief Schaffrick was notified that the Court hired a new Court Officer so
we will not be supplying our officers for the Court.
Old Business: Chief Schaffrick stated that there are no more complaints about speeding at the
Rondout Municipal Center.
Supervisor Walsh made a motion at 4:02 p.m. to adjourn. 2nd by Commissioner Hafner. Roll
Vote: 2 Yes. Absent: Commissioner Stenta.
